Huawei’S R&D Investment In 2025 Will Reach 192.3 Billion Yuan, Surpassing Samsung

Huawei's investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor research and development (R&D) in 2025 has exceeded Samsung Electronics.

According to information and communications technology (ICT) industry news, Huawei’s total R&D investment last year reached 192.3 billion yuan, approximately 42.4 trillion won.This amount is about 5 trillion won higher than Samsung Electronics’ R&D expenditure of 377 trillion won in the same period, equivalent to an average daily investment of about 113.6 billion won.Although Samsung Electronics was slightly ahead of Huawei in 2024 by actively expanding investment in AI semiconductors such as HBM, as Huawei increased investment again last year, the gap in R&D investment between the two parties further widened.

The scale of Huawei's R&D personnel is equally eye-catching.As of the end of last year, its full-time R&D personnel reached 114,000, which is almost equivalent to Samsung Electronics’ total employees of approximately 120,000.In other words, Huawei’s R&D staff size alone is close to the overall employee size of its competitors.

Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's rotating chairman, made it clear at the performance conference in March 2026 that it will continue to promote large-scale R&D investment.She said: Even if sacrifices are required, we must grow together with the pioneers of this era, further emphasizing the direction of expanding technology investment.She also added: We will become the ‘silicon-based fertile ground’ to help various industries move towards AI.

Based on large-scale investment, Huawei is also accelerating its entry into the Korean market and plans to provide new options for local companies in the AI infrastructure market dominated by NVIDIA.

Balian Wang, CEO of Huawei Korea, said at a press conference in December last year: What we will provide is a cluster solution that combines storage and network, not just a single chip product.He added: Compared with competitors who mainly sell single servers, this solution has more advantages in performance optimization.
